Get to know other bloggers - Q&A Link Up

Hey there, hi there, ho there!

In case you missed it, here are the questions for today's "get to know you" link up! You can answer some, none, or all of the questions in vlog or written format - just link them on up and meet some other bloggers, too!

Where do you like to shop?
How do you plan your meals?
Have you ever had a garden?
Do you love getting the mail?
Any fitness app recommendations?
What is the worst book you ever read?
What food would you never ever eat?
How many children do you want?
Name one item on your 'bucket list' or 'life to-do list' that you are eager to accomplish!?

So, without further ado... here is me looking like an idiot (again, only this time with bad hair) and answering your questions!

Link up your Q&A!!

I like talkin' bout you, you, you, you, usually... but occasionally, I wanna talk about...

ME!!!!

Eh. Who am I kidding? We all know that the only reason people have blogs is so that they can talk about themselves all day erry day. Anyway, I'm gonna keep on keepin' on with this talking about myself thing and answer the questions you guys presented. In vlog form. Because I'm lazy. And because... well, why not?

At the end of the post, there is a list of questions for you guys to answer! You can answer them however you dang well please (vlog or written format). I'll make a link up for... Tuesday (tomorrow) and you guys can link up your awesome answers and meet other bloggers! YAY!! At that time, I will have part 2 of my q&a session up, as well.
Big shout out to Brittany, Mariah, and Kaity for this first set of questions! Thanks for making me think, ladies.

Now here are some questions for YOU! Feel free to answer whichever ones you want, or ALL of them! I'm so excited to get to know my readers better. If you don't want to dedicate a whole post, feel free to answer some of them in the comments.

If you could move anywhere in the world where would you go? (cost and language not a problem)

I Stole This Idea

Hiii guys!!

So first things first... I have to tell you that I stole this post idea from Jennie. I just saw her post and was like, "HEY! I want to write up a list of a bunch of stupid little things that irritate me, too!!"

1. People chewing with their mouth open.

1a. People chewing so loudly that I can hear them. Some people do this even if their mouth is closed. It bugs the crap out of me.

2. Finding clothes/socks on the floor RIGHT NEXT TO THE HAMPER. Okay, I have started to come to terms with the fact that my husband will leave his socks in the office, the kitchen, the living room, pretty much wherever he takes them off. But Michael (since I know you're reading), FOR PETE'S SAKE, when you take your socks off in the bedroom or bathroom, instead of putting them down a foot away from the laundry hamper, PUT THEM IN IT!!!

3. Men that leave the toilet seat up. My husband never leaves the seat up. Ever. I don't know how I got so lucky, but I did. I believe that all men should follow my husband's lead.

4. The fact that yellow starburst and skittles even exist.

5. When I pick the shorter line at Wal-Mart and it ends up taking longer because of the idiocy of either cashier or customer.

6. Wal-Mart in general.

7. Humidity. A couple days ago we had 54% humidity, and IT DIDN'T EVEN RAIN!!!

8. Carrots. I've tried to like them, really... but these stupid little veggies will be the bane of my existence. I like them in pot roast and that's about it.

9. People who do not clean up after their pets.

10. People who litter. On a bad day, I once honked at someone to get their attention, then proceeded to yell at them and flip them off because they threw a bag of trash out their window. Am I embarrassed by my behavior? Yes, but holy cow, people who litter make me SO MAD.

Phew, now that that's over.... what are some things that irritate you? Spill it.

Feet, Wedgies, and PDA

Q: What do those things have in common?

A: They all make me uncomfortable.

No, seriously. I'll go through my list (of three, not five... OCD Alyx is going insane right now) one by one.

1. Feet. Gross. Eww. Icky. Yuck. Disgusting. I. HATE. FEET! Nasty, smelly, icky, warty feet. I realize that some people have very... not nasty feet (because there is no such thing as a person having "nice" feet). You know what, though? Keep your not nasty feet to yourself, because if you start trying to play footsy with me, I am not responsible for the black eye that will result. Not only because feet make me uncomfortable, but because you and me playing footsy is just weird.
2. Wedgies. Ouch. Yuck. No fun. ... Is anyone looking at me now, because this is really uncomfortable. No? Great... ahh, so much better - oh, hi absolutely gorgeous man who just watched me pull my underwear out of my buttcrack! Am I the only one who has had multiple moments like this in my lifetime? I mean, not so much anymore, just because I've lost all shame, but when I was in high school and college, those wedgies were like a freaking curse. And they'd always happen at the most inconvenient time. It's like my undies knew when a perfect 10 was walking by. Anyway, they're uncomfortable - having them AND picking them. And we all know you can't have your wedgie and pick it, too. Bad joke? Absolutely. Moving on.

3. PDA. Blegh. Ugh. ICK! Guys. Call me old fashioned, but there are some things that are just meant to be private. Like making out. And shoving your tongues down each other's throats. When I was a lifeguard (long, long ago), I used to tell people, "I don't swim in your bed, so don't get all frisky in my pool!" For some reason they didn't really appreciate that, but, ya know, it worked. Mostly because I am really good at making people feel uncomfortable. Just like PDA makes me uncomfortable. BOOM.
So that's it.

What makes you uncomfortable? Green beans? Fish? Sunshine? Tell the whole world, and link up with Jenni!

Will I Ever Get These Things Done?

Hi guys!!!

So... tomorrow I'll be 24. That means I have one year to do twenty-five things. I think I can cross a few of these off my list, but we'll see how much motivation I actually end up having!

25 Before 25

1. Have a baby. Yes, I realize this is cheating because it's going to happen, but I always wanted to have my first child by the time I was 25, so it's going on the list.

2. Participate in a triathlon. Not a big one - just a triathlon. I really want to do this, and I've been putting it off for years.
3. Run a 5k in less than 28:00. My fastest 5k time is 28:40, and I want to beat that.

4. Go to a state that I've never been to. This is far more realistic than going to a foreign country I haven't visited, but I'd take either one.

5. Learn to make homemade noodles. For chicken noodle soup!

6. Go horseback riding. It's been a few years since I've gone for a ride, and I miss it, so this is on my list.
7. Sell my bike and get a road bike. I don't have much more to say about this. I currently have a Trek hybrid, and I love it, but I really want a road bike.

8. Start a garden. I hate gardening... but I guess I should probably try it out.

9. Try to like carrots. This one is probably impossible, but we'll see how it goes. I'm really going to try to trick myself into eating those nasty things.

10. Go water skiing. My in-laws recently got a boat, and I fully intend to go out every weekend until I've learned how to water ski.

11. Try sushi. I've had it before, but I want to be brave and try it again.
12. Ride an exotic animal. I don't care if I have to go to a zoo or a carnival or steal an elephant from one of those places... I WILL do this.

13. Sew at least ten things. It doesn't really matter what they are, but I'd like to find the time to get better at sewing.

14. Read 100 books (children's books don't count).  I figure I'll have some time on my hands when I'm on maternity leave. Maybe.

15. Donate more to the needy. Whether it's time, money, or belongings, I'd like to give a little bit more to those who are less fortunate than myself.

16. Show my husband how much I love him. I'd like to be a little more active in how I show my love to Mike. Whether it's leaving little notes or making him his favorite dinner, I want to be better.
17. Go to a blogger meet-up. I have so many of you that I'd love to meet, and I'd like it to be before I'm on my deathbed.

18. Start a charitable organization or project. I'd really love to start some sort of organization that encourages (and helps) less privileged young women to not only graduate from high school, but to go on to college. So many young girls don't even get the chance to finish high school, whether it's because of abuse, petty crime, teen pregnancy, etc. etc., and I want to be there to encourage them to stay on the straight and narrow - to show them what their life could be if they really tried (and had positive influences in their lives).

19. Build a snowman.

20. Host a party. I don't really care what kind of party it is, but I want to host a party!

21. Learn to change my oil. Mike always changes the oil in the car, and I want to learn how to do it!

22. Go skydiving. I am scared to death of heights, but I'd love to do this.

23. Go to an amusement park. I've been to plenty, I just have to put it on this list so that it gets done. I'd love to take the little one to Disneyland. :)
24. Be debt free. Uh... except student loans. There's now way that THAT one will happen.

25. Take chances, make mistakes, and learn from them.

Happy Hump Day!!!

There is something you should know about me.

I am a jeans hoarder. Seriously. If I can fit my butt into a pair of jeans, they do not get thrown away until there is a gaping hole the the nether regions. Don't believe me? These jeans are older than my cat. In fact, here's a picture of me wearing them five and a half years ago.
What's that? You want to know all about the freak in the "then" photo? Okay.

Five years ago, I was the girl you see in the "then" pictures. I was only eighteen. I had about a month to go till I would graduate high school, and I could eat an entire large pizza by myself. I had only ever had two boyfriends, and I skipped school a lot. I was actually playing hooky with some friends when those photos were taken.

I took my friend to the senior prom because no one asked me. I once got in trouble for wearing shorts that were "too short." To this day, I am convinced that my shorts weren't too short - my legs were too long.
I thought I couldn't wait to get away from my parents. I wrote a twelve page essay on the history of Barbie, and why she contributes to eating disorders among young girls. I gave the speech at my high school graduation, and wished that I'd been better prepared. I went to Nashville for a modeling competition and was told by 10 agencies that I was too tall.
Five years ago, I was on my way to becoming the person I am today. Since then, I've loved, had my heart broken, made mistakes, learned from those mistakes, experienced more than I ever thought possible, and met and married the man of my dreams. Five years has brought me a long way.

Where/who were you five years ago?

My Carefully Composed List of Things that Make me Want to Punch Babies.

Hello there, dear friends!

It's hump day! Don't tell your little dog that, though - I'd rather it didn't know.

Ha. ha. I'm so funny.

ANYWAY. I had this genius idea the other day when I was getting really annoyed with all sorts of stupid stuff. I thought to myself, "HEY! Why don't I make an awesome post about things that make me want to punch babies?!"
**No babies were harmed in the making of this post.**
And this list was born. Please, if you are taking me seriously and think that I'm a baby-puncher, just leave this here blog, because you are too ridiculous to read it.

1. The unnecessary shortening of words. This list includes but is not limited to the following: totes, adorbs, whatevs, hilar, jelly, supes.
2. People who do not do their jobs correctly. Ummmmm oh my gosh. What are you getting paid for? Certainly not whatever it is that you're doing, because it is worthless. Thanks.

3. Women wearing leggings as pants. Read: Wearing leggings with a shirt that does not cover their backside. PEOPLE! We do NOT want to see that.

4. Fictional characters making stupid decisions. Do you remember how I felt about Katniss after the first and second HG books? Yeah, it's decisions like that that are going to kill me before I'm 30.

5. People leaving time on the microwave. Dude. Is it seriously 1:10?? Oh, of course not - some idiot just put WAY too much time on the microwave and couldn't be bothered to take it off when their food was finished.

6. Captcha on blog comments. TAKE IT OFF. TAKE IT OFF. TAKE IT THE H-E-DOUBLE-EFFING-HOCKEYSTICKS OFF!!!!!! Seriously. I want to throw my computer at the wall every time those stupid letters/numbers pop up on my screen.
7. Girls who can't walk in heels. You all know how I feel about this. It's baby-punching worthy. If you can't walk on a balance beam in your heels, you SHOULD NOT wear them. My gosh, it's awful to watch a girl make a fool of herself as she waddles down the street or through the office.

8. 99% of all Reality TV shows. They're just staged, dramatized loads of crap. There, I said it. Haters gon' hate.

9. The fact that I can't use my Mac shortcuts on my PC at work. Most of them work, but when I try one and it doesn't.... It annoys the crap out of me.
10. Sticking the knife in the butter/butter tub rather than scraping the butter off and laying it neatly beside the stick of butter or across the top of the tub. I don't know why this bothers me so much, but holy balls, it drives me freaking bonkers.

You know who doesn't drive me bonkers, though? Shane. She's super cool and awesome and all that other jazz. She has a really cool feature on her blog called Saturday Secrets where you can go share your secrets anonymously, she just won a scholarship from Target, and she started a blogger map that you can add your name to & meet other bloggers in your area!

That One Time...

Hey guys!!

I hope everyone is doing well! I'm so ready for the weekend to be here, it's not even funny. Hey, speaking of fun and funny, I was just thinking that it would be fun to tell you about that one time.
I got flipped off for brake-checking a girl who was tailgating me, speeding, and talking on her cell phone in rush hour traffic.

I locked myself in the bathroom and no one could get me out for a good two hours. I was six.
I puked in the Home Depot parking lot after a hard swim practice. High school Alyx was mortified, even though no one saw.

I wore khakis to school and got my lady times, then wore a lost and found sweatshirt around my waist for the rest of the day to hide the evidence.

I won a pizza-eating contest against a bunch of 14-year-old boys.

I won a pie-eating contest at the pool. I was eleven.

I bawled over cupcakes. No, not the breakdown in Germany, but the time I dropped a box of cupcakes on the ground and they landed frosting-side down. They were for my kids at church. I'm ashamed to admit that I've cried over cupcakes more than once.

I walked into the wrong apartment in the middle of the night. This resulted in a very scared and confused Asian man pushing me out of his apartment while yelling indecipherable words. If you want to know more... I'll dedicate a vlog to this story. Just because it's that good.

I had my third successful day of working out and made sure to get photo evidence.
I ran over a turtle that was crossing the freeway and earned the nickname "Turtle Killer." I was devastated. I was in driver's ed, and yes, my teacher came up with that winning nickname.

I cried like a baby because Mike walked by and scared the crap out of me. No, he wasn't trying [this time].

And that's all I've got.

Except not really. I just remembered that I have to tell you some really exciting news. I'm going to be co-hosting the vlog linkup with a bunch of awesome ladies who I am too lazy to name. BUT. We will be talking about one of my favorite topics - shoes. The What's on Your Feet vlog linkup will be live in one week (August 15th), so mark your calendars!!
Hope Squared
Happy Thursday!!!

Ridiculous Questions get Ridiculous Answers. A Must Read (that I didn't write).

Happy Tuesday!!!

Before I get to anything, I just wanted to share something with you all that you must read. Just go read it and you'll know what I'm talking about.

Anyway, remember those ridiculous questions you guys asked? Well here I am in all my sweatpants/messy hair/no makeup glory to answer them via vlog. Hey everyone!!

Hope you all are having a fabulous week!! I'm currently ripping my in-laws' bathroom apart so that it can be updated a bit, and let me tell you - I will NEVER  buy a house that has wallpaper up. EVER. It's the WORST to get down, especially when some stupid head has wallpapered the freaking ceiling. I mean, really? WHO DOES THAT?!?! Okay, wallpaper rant over.

So I'm gonna tell you right now - this post is a random, jumbled mess. I feel the need to tell you about that skirt up there. It's actually a dress, I'm just too much of a giant to wear it the proper way. I've also worn it a total of like, 6 times in the past week and a half. So sue me - I'm a repeat offender. Anyway, I won it on Gentri Lee's blog during her birthday giveaways week.

Can I actually rewind to my wallpaper rant? Great, let me tell you some loves and hates for this week, and start there:
I love the feeling that you get after all the hideous wallpaper has been torn down.
I hate the process of tearing said wallpaper down [from the ceiling... wth].

I love that our new house has no wallpaper.
I hate that it smells like old people.

I love the heat and sunshine.
I hate that the 40 mph wind is keeping me from riding my bike.

I love the hilly terrain in Northeast Iowa when I'm out on the 4-wheeler.
I hate the hilly terrain when I'm attempting to ride my bike.

I love looking at furniture for our house.
I hate that we cannot afford any of it, and even if we had extra money, it would be going to student loans.

If you have any loves and hates, you can link them up over at Noël's blog.

Ooh, and now back to Gentri. I love doing the 7 questions every Wednesday - the questions are always so fun!

1. If you could be any princess- which would you be and why?
Ariel, duh! She's a freaking mermaid - do I really have to explain myself? Except instead of marrying Eric the lame-o, I would just stay a mermaid and live under the sea with Sebastian and Flounder forever.
original source (edited by yours truly)

2. Do you have any odd habits? (do things in order, words that you say too often, etc)
I have a routine that I follow when towel-drying, I load the dishwasher a certain way, and I say "Holy balls" far too often.

3. What's your "go to" outfit?
Ummm... jeans and a t-shirt. Or sweats if I'm spending the day at home.

4. Do you have any siblings? What are their genders, ages, order of age, names, etc?
I have three brothers - one older, two younger.

5. What's your favorite precious stone?
Diamonds. But... not just any diamond - my diamond.

6. If you had a check in your hand for 1 million dollars, what would you do with it?
Pay off student loans, buy a car, pay off the house, start college funds for our future children, pay for Mike's school, invest some of it, and put the rest in a savings account. I know, I know - boring answers, but that's what bills do to a person- they make us boring.

7. What do you love most about yourself- physically (eyes, smile, hair, etc. I don't know a good way to word that question...)?
I'm actually pretty dang happy with my physical appearance. I think I like my legs and back best. I also like my height. And now I'm starting to sound like a self-absorbed lady-douche, so I'll shut up and show you the mandatory funny picture to redeem myself.

You can still enter the Shabby Apple Gift Card Giveaway.

Hey guys!!

Hope everyone's week is going well! We're still loving being back in the states, but I'm missing Germany a little bit.

Anyway. I finally got myself some colored pants (I actually ordered them in like, March but got them about a week before I got home), and wasn't brave enough to wear them with anything other than a white shirt. So sue me - I'm an uncreative clothes-wearer.

I'm kind of in a blogging rut and really don't have much to say, so I turned to Gentri Lee's 7 Questions for some inspiration.

1. What do you do when you're sick?
I tend to think I get pretty needy when I'm sick. All I want to do is lay around and let someone take care of me.

2. What do you do to find motivation when you feel you've lost it?
Ummmm. That's a really good question. I guess I go on a wild goose chase until I find it.

3. Do you wish time away or do you savor every moment?
I guess it depends on the day and what I'm doing. If I'm working, I'm probably wishing time away.

4. If you could be any mythological creature, what would you be, and why?
Definitely a pegasus. I could fly and gallop. How awesome would that be?

5. What is your current biggest weakness and are you working on fixing it?
My arms. Oh, right. you mean non-physical weakness. I guess I'd have to say that I have trouble setting my pride aside. Ya know, apologizing just to fix things even if something isn't my fault. That's really hard for me.

6. How do you greet someone when meeting them for the first time?
Handshake.

7. How do you grocery shop?
I just... go. Since being in Germany where shopping bags cost at the store, we've gotten in the habit of using our own bags, and I want to try to keep that up (at least till we need trash bags again).

And... the mandatory ridiculous photo:

PS: I've won like, 5,000 giveaways lately, so if I won one on your blog, I promise that a feature is coming, I just have to get my lazy butt up and get pictures of everything.

Hey, speaking of giveaways, remember this one? You have less than a day to enter!

Hi guys!! I'm currently running on zero hours of sleep, so sorry if this post is not the most exciting. :) We've been cleaning and packing constantly for the move back home, and it's a never-ending job.

If you do want a funny read, though, I highly suggest the guest post I did here

Anywho.... You should sign up for Christmas in July (a bloggy gift exchange) if you haven't already. It's going to be awesome - we've got bloggers from literally all over the world participating!!

I will be joining Gentri for her 7 Questions today. Here is my mandatory ridiculous photo:

1. If you were to start your own business, what would it be?
Oh, man. I guess Design. Since I sort of already have a business? Except I don't really call it that, because I haven't made thousands of dollars doing it.
I guess now would be the appropriate time to let you all know that I opened a Storenvy shop. I'll be selling prints, photos, and customizable blog design templates (I don't have any of those up yet, but they'll come eventually). We're in the process of trying to buy a house, and we're both in school, so every little bit helps!

2. You wake up on the wrong side of the bed, do you embrace your grumpiness or try to fight it?
I tend to embrace it, because fighting it just makes me even more grumpy.

3. What's the very first memory you have?
Spending time with my Grandpa when they came to visit us in Germany. I was probably 4 years old.

4. the world is ending, what do you do? Allow yourself to die? Fight? Hide? Etc.
This is kind of a difficult question. I would probably fight, but I wouldn't have a problem with dying.

5. What is your favorite meal of the day?
Lunch

6. How do you best learn? Visual? Listening? Hands on?
I think I'm better with hands on learning... but I like all three at the same time - I remember things better that way.

7. What is your favorite joke?
I'm pretty much an awful person, since my favorite joke has to do with the holocaust (I'm not even going to say it... it's that horrible).
I guess my next favorite joke is the Michael Scott classic:

So... What's your favorite joke? I'm in need of a laugh (or 500) today.

I Stole This Post Idea.

Hi, my name is Alyx, and I'm a lazy blogaholic.

I'm a bit distracted at the moment, due to moving and landlord issues, so don't hate me because of the totally, 100% stolen post idea. Seriously. I'd cry. And... I stole this idea from my lovely Blogger of the month, Jennie.

Today we will be taking a walk down memory lane. Basically, I will be showing you guys how stupid I was in high school, because that sounds fun, right? No? Okay, you can click away now.

Before I do that, though, let me remind you about Christmas in July! Signup is open till June 20th.

And... in case you're interested in reading about what the expat life is really like... you should head over here to Katie's awesome bloggy.

Now we're off to see the Alyx, the Alyx of Memory Lane (I hope you sang that to the tune of "We're off to see the Wizard," because that just totally fits).
I went to senior prom with a good friend because no one asked me, and there was no way I was going stag.
What? You guys didn't play dress up when you were 15??

This was in Germany when I was a junior in high school.

Senior picture.

Phone sex. Get it?? HA. HA. HA!

I don't even know. I just thought you guys would enjoy seeing what I really look like.

This was the only school dance I ever got asked to... and it wasn't even at my school.

About ten minutes after this picture was taken, I went and told a guy that I liked his pants, but that they would look better on my floor. I was totally joking. He thought I was funny[looking], so we ended up having a sort of "thing" that ended in a kiss by the hippos at the zoo. Romantic, no?

Oh, you know. Just a nice butt shot from below.
This is pretty much the story of my life.
So... there you go. You have now seen high school Alyx, in all her glory. Or some of it. Or really not very much at all. Basically.... I was exactly the same as I am now. Only not as awesome. The awesomeness thing has grown with time.

Obviously I'm kidding.

Hiii guys, and Happy Hump Day!!!

Hope you're all doing FABULOUS. The weather has gone cold and rainy, and I'm ready for the sunshine to come back, but at least it's not snowing, right?

Anywho... I've got my answers to Gentri Lee's Seven Questions.

‎7 Questions:

1. Are you a thrift shopper?
Umm.... since being in the land of no thrift stores, not really. If I was back in the states, though, I totally would be.

2. You just had a very bad dream, what do you do?
Freak out. Wake up crying for my mommy. I don't know, is there something that I should do? I'd probably just grab a baseball bat and sleep with it under my pillow (I would grab a knife or a gun, but I don't want to accidentally die in my sleep).

3. What is your favorite flavor of Ice Cream?
I think we all know from thisvlog that I love peanut butter ice cream.

4. What do you do with your money? (spend it, save it, invest it, bury it, etc)
All of the above. I'm actually considering being a pirate and making a treasure map for my will so that I can send my kids on a crazy treasure hunt. You know, just to see how smart they actually are.

5. What was the last quote or statement you heard that really hit you?
"The race we are really in is the race against sin, and surely envy is one of the most universal of those."

--Jeffrey R. Holland.
Seriously. Envy is so easy. I think it's something that I do without even realizing it, so this hit me.

6. What do you do when you're driving alone? (ex: dance, sing, listen to talk radio, etc)
Dance. Sing. Talk to myself. Scream at other drivers.

7. Did you watch the premier of Bachelorette? If so, who was your favorite bachelor?

I don't watch that show... does that make me an outcast
