If You Give a Mouse a Cookie... He will Make a Crappy Movie from an Amazing Book. AKA CUBICLE CHRONICLES.

Happy Hump Day, and welcome to my first real edition of the Cubicle Chronicles.

In case you forgot, here are the characters involved (and you can add "The New Girl" to that list):

Anyway Once upon a Tuesday, I was taking a little break from my work. I was standing by my cubicle, occupying my time by engaging in idle chit chat with The Biker, The Blonde, and The Giver. Our conversation ranged from some of The Giver's problematic accounts to sparkly sweaters and secret Santas (we are very mature and intellectual), when all of a sudden, The Giver's face went completely pale.

"Alyx..." she whispered, then, "ALYX!" It was almost a shout, and I knew there was something wrong. Being the wuss that I am, I automatically assumed there was a spider ready to wreak havoc, so I jumped out of my cubicle and turned around to look. Just as I turned around, there he was - the totally vicious, blood-thirsty menace - THE MOUSE. He looked a little like this:
He scurried behind my drawers, and I ran away, shrieking and whimpering like a little girl. I almost trampled The Blonde as I was sprinting away from my desk. Eventually The New Girl got the courage to go investigate (by "investigate" I obviously mean kick a bunch of stuff until the blood-thirsty fiend was scared s***less and ran away to torture some other poor soul).

We put down a sticky mouse trap, I moved my purse out of my bottom drawer, and I kept my feet 3 inches off the floor for the rest of the day. And so far, we have managed to live happily ever after.

...Until he strikes again.

In other news, it's that time of the month (dude. I'm pregnant... not that time of the month).

For December book club, we are going to do something a little different. The theme for this month is:
Instead of picking one book, we can all read whatever we want, as long as it fits the theme. If you so desire, you can review the book and the movie, and link both up on the last Tuesday of December. We figured this would be an easy way to get around those pesky library waiting lists. Plus, it's a great way to pick up one of those books you've been meaning to read.

Another way we have decided to get past those waiting lists is by picking the books a couple of months in advance. That would be why we are asking you for your book suggestions for January and  February now.

Favorite Things Friday

Happy Friday!!!

So it's that time... time for my favorite things this week!

1. This apple dip. Today is our October food day, and I'm bringing sliced apples and this yummy dip - you HAVE to try it. It's so easy, and SO. DELICIOUS.

2. You guys. Seriously, I am overwhelmed with gratitude right now - you guys are so amazing! Thank you so, so much or all of your kind words, congratulations, and well-wishes.

3. Sweatpants and leggings. I'm getting to the point where it's uncomfortable to wear my normal jeans and slacks. I use the rubber band, but I'd much rather lounge around in my sweatpants.

4. These boots. I just need to cave and buy them already.
5. This blogger's home tour. Sarah Kate has one of the most beautiful homes I have ever seen, and it sits on 22 acres of beautiful land, with wild animals and a creek running through. She and her husband have put hours upon hours of work and love into making their house a home, and she has been taking us on a tour over the past few days.

What are your favorite things this week?

Sunday Confessions Link Up

Happy Sunday!!!

I don't think I will ever get over how quickly these weekends seem to fly by. There just doesn't seem to be enough time to do everything that I'd like. Do any of you feel that way, too, or is it just me?

Anyway, time to grab a button and link up for Sunday Confessions!

1. I made my bed yesterday for the first time in two weeks. Usually I'll straighten the blankets and sort of "make" it right before I climb in to go to sleep for the night, but I'm not counting that. This time I actually made it - pillow shams and everything. It's the little things, people!
2. I finished four books this past week. Water for Elephants, The Best of Me, True Believer, and The Lincoln Lawyer. I started Is Everyone Hanging out without Me? And Other Concerns. Out of the four I read, The Lincoln Lawyer and Water for Elephants tied for my favorite. The two Nicholas Sparks
books were kind of tied behind the other two. I do love his writing and his stories, but it's gotten to the point where I've read so many of his books that I can predict what will happen.
3. My good bloggy friend Kim and I have an idea. We are probably going to start a bloggy book club! I know that there are a few out there (if you're interested, Rosie & Kaylee both do one), but we would like to add another to the mix. I mean, what happens if you are part of a different book club and don't really want to read the book they're reading? Or there's always the chance that you won't like the book chosen for our club. Either way, it's cool to have more options, right? We're still working on the details, but we'll let you know once we've got it all figured out!

4. There is a woman at work in another department that always yells into her phone, and it drives me insane. She's halfway across the building, and I can always hear HER over everything else - the phones, the typing, people in my OWN department. Holy balls, woman!! QUIT YELLING!

5. I almost had a heart attack last night watching my Huskers. I don't know what game they were playing, but it definitely wasn't football, and it CERTAINLY wasn't NEBRASKA football. REALLY? A loss to UCLA??? Come on, guys! They're not even good (sorry if you're a UCLA fan)! At least we weren't the only upset - there were a couple others yesterday (Arkansas & Wisconsin). Good thing I have faith in my boys and know that everyone has their bad days.

So, what do you have to confess?

The Cubicle Chronicles. A PSA. And Chaos.

Why, hello there, friends.

I hope you all are having a fabulous Monday - not working too hard, but not slacking, either (slacking gets you in trouble, right?).

First of all... My arms in this post? Soooo photoshopped. Haha, I thought you all would catch on to that, but I was mistaken. That is an incredibly buff man's bicep, not mine. Just an FYI/PSA/I can't believe you couldn't tell announcement.

I work in a corporate office. Wooooo. My office has cubicles, just like 99% of the offices out there. I have my own little cubicle, where I sit next to all of the other people in my department. I thought it would be fun to do a little series called The Cubicle Chronicles. It won't be a weekly thing, or on any set day - it will just be the days that I have something funny or interesting to share.

I thought it would be grand to introduce you to my coworkers:
I don't really have anything good for The Chronicles this week, but stay tuned - I'm sure there will be plenty as the weeks go on.

Oh, hey! You know who else writes her own little series of Chronicles? Mia. She's not in my cubicle chronicles, but holy balls, life would be awesome if she was. I mean, she is supermom in a world full of chaos, but I'll let her tell you about it.
Hi there, I'm Mia from The Chronicles of Chaos.  No, it's not a comic book, but sometimes I do feel like SuperMom!  I married my high school sweetheart, and we have 2 beautiful sons.  I have always loved writing (in any shape or form), but I started blogging to capture the chaos that reigns supreme when you have 2 parents who work full-time, 2 rambunctious boys, and a Black Lab who has never outgrown the puppy energy! And I sprinkle in some recipes, and other life ramblings in the mix as well.  Stop by and say hi sometime, I love meeting new people!

Mia is also giving away a Starbucks gift card here - have you entered yet?

Happy Sunday!

How the crap is it already the 19 of August? Like, when did that happen???

Anyway. Think up some confessions, grab a button, and link on up! Can't wait to read all that juiciness.

1. Working full-time is ridiculous. How do people do it? I mean, I feel like I don't have time to do anything other than work, eat, and sleep. I'm like a baby, only less pooping and screaming. Probably a little less crying... but not much.
2. I'm trying to keep bloggy a secret from my coworkers. Just in case I ever have to tell a funny story about work, ya know?

3. Husband ruined my secret. Friday night we were at a cookout for my department, and the group we were with started talking about blogs. Husband outed me. Rude.

4. I've been an awful housekeeper this week. And last week. Basically since I started working. The house is a mess, the office is a disaster area, and the dishes need to be done. Again, HOW DO YOU DO IT?!?!?!!?
5. I hate clothes. Seriously. If it was socially acceptable to just walk around in your underwear all the time, I would. This confession will not have a photo because this blog is G-rated. And no one wants to see that.

Sunday Confessions Link Up

Happy Sunday!!!

This weekend has been way too short. Seriously. I feel like I've gotten a lot done, but I would've liked to have had a little more time for relaxation.

Anyway. Grab yourself a button, think of some confessions, and link on up!!

1. I'm obsessed with spray paint. It's a problem. We spray painted our mailbox and pole today, and I think they look pretty darn good. Way better than they did, anyway. I don't care if it's one of these cheapo ones from Wal-mart - it's classy. HA!
2. I ate like crap all weekend long, then felt bad about it, so decided to finally sign up for my Y membership. I've been putting it off for so long, thinking that we don't have the money right now, but finally just bit the bullet today. Working out used to be something that I did 5-6 times a week, and I loved it. It wasn't because I had to, it was because I wanted to, and the truth is that I really miss it. So... starting tomorrow (Monday) at 5:30 a.m., it's on.

3. I'm so afraid that working a 9-5 is going to make me stir crazy. Side note: why is it a 9-5? Everyone I know has to go in from 8-5. So wrong. Anyway, back to my confession. I sit at a desk all day, so I'm not sure how well I'll do. I get restless.
4. Because of number three, I use a small water bottle at work. I work on the 3rd floor. The cafeteria with the ice and filtered water is on the first floor. Every hour on the hour, I go downstairs to fill up my 12 oz. water bottle.

5. Because of number four, I pee a lot. Like, it is pathetic. I work with a pregnant lady, and I think I use the bathroom more often than her. Fail.

No Judging Allowed. AKA a Tour of My Already Lived-in Home.

Hey!!

Hope you all are having a great week. As for me - I'm ready for orientation to be over so that I can get to work. It's slightly ridiculous how stoked I am to be able to do my job.

Anyway. I promised it, so here it is. Any woman who works full time and keeps a spotless home without a maid is pretty much my hero.

So there you have it. We still have a lot that we want to do, but all of it requires money, and we have other priorities for a while, so we'll see what happens.

Blah. Blah. Blah.

Blah.

That's kind of how I'm feeling. If you want to read a non-blah post, you can find one of my guest posts here. You can also find my BBN post on Bad Words in Blogging over here. You may wanna keep this window open and read to the end, though... just sayin. :)

I'm giving away a custom business card design here.

Now that I'm working full time, I don't really have time to answer every single comment that you guys leave and visit all of your blogs.
Basically, I'm choosing to only respond to important comments, but still make the effort to come visit your blogs, because, let's face it - reading your blogs is a heck of a lot more enjoyable than answering emails. So... if I don't reply to every comment you leave, please know that I still appreciate them, and I lurve you all.

In other news, thanks for all of the well-wishes yesterday! Let me tell ya - orientation was sooo exciting. I mean, those 80s videos just really got me excited. How could this hair not give you the warm and fuzzies?
On a serious note, I'm pretty sure I'll really enjoy my job. And that's the last you'll hear about that, unless I have stupid funny stories (which I'm sure I will, so scratch that last statement.

In other news, I'm planning on doing my little home tour vlog on Thursday. Wooo!! It's finally at a point where I feel that it's presentable enough.

And... finally, I have a little end of the month treat for you guys!
I know it's almost time for school to start, and a lot of people are either students or teachers. What better way to celebrate going back than with a $25 gift card to Starbucks and a gift basket to Bath and Body works? I mean, I'm not a student or a teacher, and I'd love to have both. But alas, I cannot have them. You're in luck, though, because Libby is giving away both of the aforementioned things, and you can enter!

First Day....

Good Morning!!!

Today's my first day at my "big girl job!" This is kind of how I'm feeling. Eek!!
So if I don't respond to comments or check the blog every hour, that's why!

Have a good day, everyone!!

Sunday Confessions Link Up

Yo, yo, YO!!!

What's crack'a'lackin? Okay, I'll stop trying to be cool, because it's obviously not working for me.

It is Sunday. Duh. So... just grab a button and spill your guts, mmkay?

1. My "business casual" wardrobe is close to non-existent. So... I went ahead and bought a few basics yesterday. Why is this a confession, you ask? Because I feel guilty anytime I buy new clothing. It's bad. Everything I bought (except the slacks) was on sale, though, so that makes it better. Looking for a new pair of inexpensive slacks for your freakishly long legs? Check Alloy. They have these puppies in like, 50 different colors & patterns.
2. I'm soooo ready to move into our house. I love my in-laws so very much, and am beyond grateful for everything they have done for us, but after more than a year of not really having a place with complete privacy (even in Germany we lived in the same home as our landlord), I'm ready to get some quality, genuine alone time with Husband.
3. I had spinach in my smoothie today. You may be thinking, Wow, Alyx... you're a little behind. Good for you. Not. Well... I don't blame you. I jumped on that bandwagon a little late, but it's delicious.

4. I want guns. As in more than one. Don't hate - a girl's gotta protect herself when the world collapses.

5. I may be watching reruns of Doomsday Preppers, and that may or may not have been what made me think of guns. This show is insane. Have you guys seen it?

So now that you think I'm crazy... link on up!

Good News. Buffalo. Badlands. Family.

Hi friends!!

Happy Weekend! I'm really just popping in to share some good news! Guess who makes funny faces, can't take a normal picture to save her life, and is the new customer relations associate at Crete Carrier Corp?
That's right, this girl. Starting July 30th, I will be analyzing price points and profit margins, renewing contracts, working with new and existing customers, and doing other cool office job stuff.

So... now I leave you with some buffalo, some pictures of the South Dakota Badlands, and a family photo.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, I know I will!
If you're interested in winning a polaroid camera, you can win one from Allison here

Favorite Things Friday

Howdy, Friends!!

So... I'm thinking that this is going to be a pretty short post. Mostly because I'm behind on some design work, dead tired, hungry, and grumpy. So... yes, it will be short and sweet.

Favorite Things Friday: Recent Events Edition

1. The home inspection went well! There are really only a few minor things that need fixing. DO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS?!?! In about a month, I will finally have my own space again for the first time in a looonnngggg time. And for the first time ever if we're talking about actually owning a home. So happy.
2. I have a second interview. I guess today's interview went well because I'm meeting with the VP of the department in a week and a half or so. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high, because I don't want to be disappointed if something doesn't work out.

3. Seeing one of my besties and former roomies for the first time in more than a year. I was a dumb-face and didn't get a pic of us together, but here's an oldie but goodie.
4. Learning more about couponing from my SIL. It sounds dorky, but I am so stoked to be learning more ways to save money!!

5. Having the BEST blog readers ever. Seriously, you guys - I cannot thank you enough for all of the support and love you give me. I never would have guessed when I started blogging about 9-10 months ago that I would love the community this much. I'm so grateful to have met all of you - you've made the bad days more bearable and the good days and events even better. I love you all.
Now I'm done being a sap.

And... I decided to do a Q&A vlog session where I answer your ridiculous questions. They don't have to be ridiculous, but ridiculous is fun. So... if you have a silly question, or something that you've just been dying to know, leave it in the comments section (if you wanna ask anonymously, just make yourself anon in the comments section). If you don't want to watch a vlog... don't leave a question.

But... I like looking like an idiot on camera for you guys, so ask away. :)
