Remember the Time I Talked about Breakdowns?

Yeah, just had one. One in which I got home at 10:00, walked into a disaster of a house, and flipped.

I took the laundry and threw it all in the laundry room [very angrily].

I grabbed candy bags and wrappers that were on the couch from trick-or-treaters and threw it into the trash [also very angrily].

I flipped out and screamed at Mike for not having emptied the litter box two days ago when I asked him.

I started crying because I got home from work and went straight to the gym and running errands. I was about to fall over from being so tired and hungry.

I yelled at Mike about the house being a disaster, and how I'm just ready to be finished with being pregnant.

I locked myself in the bathroom and took a hot shower while I cried.

And after it all, Mike came in, gave me a hug, and told me that he loved me. He may have also proceeded to tell me how lucky I am "to have a husband with such thick skin." [<--see b="b" re="re" we="we">real
 over here]
Basically.... our life isn't perfect. I flip out over stupid things, and at the end of it all, Mike is right there waiting for me. It's not always rainbows and sunshine, but even when I want to punch that guy in the face, or he wishes that I would somehow lose my ability to talk [read: nag, yell, whine, etc], we love each other in spite of it all.

That, my friends, is why I revel in the imperfections of life and love - because I have that dude at my side. Not just for today or twenty years from now, but forever.

What Better Way to do a Book Review than with a Vlog? My Husband is a Poet, and he didn't Know it.

Happy Monday!!

I'm choosing to greet you in such a cheerful way because I'm hoping that it will make me a little more chipper as I roll out of my bed this morning, 15 minutes before I waltz out the door, still rubbing my eyes and grumbling about how I frickin' hate Mondays.

I'll let you know later if it worked.

Anyway. I don't really feel like typing, so here's a book review in vlog format.
If you don't want to watch the vlog, the book was Is Everyone Hanging out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling.
My Grade: C+

The bottom line: I'm generally not a fan of memoirs, but this was an okay read. I'd recommend checking it out if you're looking for a mindless, somewhat humorous book that's easy to put down when your kid starts screaming or punching his (or her) siblings.

On another note - have any of you ever read the Miss Peregrine series?? I downloaded the first one yesterday and am looking for some opinions/ someone who will talk about it with me when I'm finished!! EDIT: I just finished the first one... someone talk about it with me!!!

And.... just for kicks and giggles, I have something from my hunk a hunk of a hubby.

Mike: I had an assignment to write a poem based on a picture or image I saw. At the time we were in the car driving to Wichita, KS. We had gone to a KFC/ Taco Bell where I got a meal deal #4 from the Taco Bell side. A beefy five-layer burrito without sourcream, adding 'redstrips'. Comes with a medium drink and a bag of doritos. The drink cup they used was from the KFC side and had a picture of Col. Sanders. I chose to write the poem on the cup since it was the only thing I could think of. (Alyx here - it was totally my idea)
The Old Man: Colonel Sanders
Red, white, and no, not blue. Black.
The colors dance across not paper, not canvas, not even cloth, but across plastic.
Not flat, not rough, but round and smooth. It fits snugly in my grip and provides nourishment.
As I look down I see a face warm and bright, but formed with the colors of anger and despair.
He smiles and stares kindly, inviting you to enjoy what’s underneath.
The tie he wears is black, his shirt as white as his hair which glistens in the light.
His spectacles bright and clear create ovals around his eyes that bring them closer and into your soul.
Not penetrating, but embracing. Not forcefully, but as if he asks permission to lighten your burden.
Even now as you see him, you thirst, and long for satisfaction and know that he has it.
Not in him, but a part of him. Not through him, but in him.
Satisfaction is found and thirst sleeps.

Favorite Things Friday

Yo homeskillet french fry faces.

It's been a while since I've done a favorite things post, and that is soooo not cool. Just sayin'.

1. Chicken Alfredo roll-ups. Another excellent recipe from my pinterest. Try it, love it. You're welcome.

2. Getting back in shape. I'm writing this on Thursday night... so I obviously haven't worked out for Fri yet, but the plan is to go tomorrow morning. If I do, I will have worked out four days this week. I missed Tues because I was sick on Monday night. It's a good feeling, though (working out, not being sick)!
I mean, look at these guns. I just almost wrote buns. That would have been awkward. No, I'm not modeling my butt for you. Sorry, sickos. Kidding. I love you. Unless you think that's weird. Now I'm just going to shut up.
3. My husband. Just because. He's a pretty cool dude.
4. Baby goats. Have you seen how cute they are?
5. Candles. I love candles. What else is there to say? They smell good, they make a room feel cozy... they're just awesome.
CAN I GET A FREAKIN, "YAAAYYYYYY FRIDAY!!!!"

Two Years. I Guess it's Time for a Sappy Post.

Why hello, my little Lovemuffins.

Is that one word or two? I'm just gonna leave it at one.

Anyway. Today is August 10. That might not be a significant day for any of you, but it is a pretty important day to me and the husband. I even marked it in my planner. Right alongside my dinner plans and Mike's work schedule, see?
And don't go all hater on me for having to write it down - I'm super busy and would probably forget to get dressed in the morning if I didn't get so chilly after showering.

Okay, I got way off topic there. This is supposed to be a mushy post about how much I love and adore Michael and how happy I am to be with him. But you know what? I feel like he knows that, so I don't need to tell the world.

Instead, I'm going to tell you guys how much fun I have with him... and take a little journey through our second year of marriage in pictures.
Right before we left for Germany, we got anniversary pictures taken together.
We moved to Germany in August and were welcomed by craptastic weather that didn't stop the entire time we were there.

We went on a ton of trips - many cities in Germany plus France, Spain, Scotland, and the Czech Republic.

We spent some time Skyping with the family and friends we missed back home.
We flew back into Kansas and spent some quality time with my parents.
 We played at the lake.
We spent the 4th of July with Mike's parents in the Black Hills.
Now for the semi-mushy stuff.

Michael - In the past year, I have come to love you more than I ever thought was possible. You are my best friend, my confidant, my companion, and my favorite trouble-maker. We have so much fun together, and I love that about us - our relationship is never too serious, and I think that's perfect.

I love that you love me for who I am, even though I'm easily stressed, high-strung, ridiculous, and sometimes get lost in the future instead of the present. I love that you let loose and aren't afraid to be yourself with me. I love your bear hugs, your smile, your stupid jokes, your teasing, your ninja coding skills, your "woman" jokes - I love it all.

Thanks for a great two years - I can't wait to see what the future brings. Maybe a mini-you? He'd have me wrapped around his little finger. Except I hope he doesn't look quite as... interesting as this little guy... girl... thing.
Oh, and in case you were looking for it... DAY FOUR, PEEPS!! After this week I'll just do weekly updates.

WIWW. Him. Her. Questions.

Hi everyone!!

So Mike was all dressed up yesterday for his interview and decided that he needed to showcase his sexiness on my blog. So there you go - the hunk of burning love below is mine, all mine. I'm especially a fan of picture number 4. He's got the booty fo' sho.

Him: suit: dillards shirt&tie: jc penney
Anyway. Now that you've seen a his&hers "fashion" post... I want to keep it going with his&hers questions. Just because I think my husband is awesome and you all need to hear from him every once in a while.
1. What is your favorite Disney Movie?
Her: DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE!!! I guess if I'm picking my childhood favorite, it's The Little Mermaid. If I have to pick my adult favorite, it's either Wall-e or Tangled.
Him: (grumbles) I hate disney movies. Ummmm Cinderella (smiles sheepishly). No. The Rescuers and The Rescuers Down Under.

2. What technology do you think you will never adopt?
Her: Pajama jeans. I don't care if that doesn't count as technology - it was the first thing that popped into my head. I will also never adopt the "Help, I've fallen and I can't get up" thing.
Him: 3D TV. Unless it becomes available without glasses... and doesn't hurt my eyes.

3. How many pairs of shoes do you have? How many is too many?
Her: Ummmm... a lot? IDK, half of my shoes are still in storage. Is it even possible to have too many shoes? I don't think so.
Him: (counts on his fingers) I think I only have six. For a girl, too many is when the closet is full. For a guy... six. seven. eight. If you have more shoes than days of the week, you're a little metro.

4. Do you believe in life on other planets?
Her: Yes. I mean, look at how many other galaxies and solar systems there are out there - there has got to be life somewhere else in the universe. I find it hard to believe that there wouldn't be.
Him: Yes.

5. Have you ever been in a car accident?
Her: Hahaha, can I plead the fifth here? I think we all know about this one, but my lips are sealed after that.
Him: (laughing) Yes (I think we know which one he's talking about), but I've never been the driver.

6. What is something most people do not know about you?
Her: I have a small tattoo on my right shoulder blade. You know, from that one rebellious stage.
Him: I'm tall. I have every season of Gossip Girl on dvd in my closet. That's obviously not true. Ummm... I don't follow sports like most men, but I enjoy playing them (he's right - I think I follow sports more than he does).

7. What is your favorite book you read as a child?
Her: Black Beauty. I read that book like, 5 times. Ridiculous, I know. OH! And Anne of Green Gables. Loved that one, too. I actually just re-read it for the heck of it.
Him: I think everyone's answer is the same for that, isn't it? Goosebumps. Oh, wait... not that. I don't know. Actually, those are probably the only books I read when I was younger. Ooh, put The Hunger Games. I'm still a kid, right? On a completely different note, tell your readers that I'm accepting tips for my vlog performance

On Marriage.

YO!!!

I finished a couple blog designs this past week... click the pics to take you to the blog. If you're looking for a design, go ahead and email me - this is the first time in months that I haven't had a queue.
used Calli Script and ClementePDae fonts. the heart comes in this brush set
used these foliage brushes. fonts: Atlast greeting & Mona Lisa Solid
I also changed up my about and us pages - exciting, right? I'm still fixing up this design, trying to make it exactly what I want.

Anyway. A while back, I wrote a post about marriage, and I never shared it with you all. I thought, though, that it's about time for me to tell you all the truth, the whole truth, and nothin' but the truth, so help me God [about marriage].

So here it goes.

Let me start off by saying this: I don't consider myself an expert on marriage; this is just my story and my opinion.

Mike and I had what most people would call a whirlwind romance. We met in March of 2010 and were married in August of 2010.

We got married fast. There were still things about each other that we didn't know - weird little quirks, silly habits, etc. etc. In fact, there are still days when I learn something new about my husband. The important thing to us wasn't knowing every single little detail about each other - it was knowing that the decision to get married was the right one. We didn't depend on ourselves for that answer, either. We turned to God. I didn't get some crazy, eye-opening answer  - I just felt like it was the time for me and he was the person. Almost two years later... I hold to that opinion.

All of that good stuff being said, marriage is no walk in the park. It's not mushy-gushy-lovey-dovey all the time. I was 3 months away from 22 when we got married, and 9 months away from 2 college degrees. I had lived on my own for 3 years, and had my own way of doing things. I was independent. I had my own car, paid my own bills, did what I wanted when I wanted to, and made all of my decisions myself. I didn't consult with anyone before I did anything, and hadn't for years.

Because of that, going from single to being married was a hard transition. It was really hard for me to let my new hubby be the decision-maker. I felt like I had just as much experience as he did, so I should be able to make my own decisions without consulting him.

Even now, over a year later, I sometimes have trouble with that. No, I'm not saying that I should be a totally submissive person who doesn't ever have a say in things. I'm saying that in our household, my husband gets to wear the pants. He's the referee, the dude who calls the shots [after careful consideration of my opinions, of course].

I don't always like it, but I know that we are equal partners in our marriage. Sometimes he puts his own opinion aside and does what I want him to, and for that I am so grateful! I'm really glad I've learned to let him be the leader. It's actually less stressful for me that way, too, believe it or not.

So I guess the moral of the story is this: Being married is awesome, but it's not always easy. There are adjustments that will have to be made. There will be things you will give up, but you will gain so much more in return. It's a bumpy ride, with lots of twists and turns, but in the end... the destination is totally worth the journey. At least I think so. Talk to me in 60 years.

Favorite Things Friday

Hey there, hi there, ho there!

It has been a crummy week in these parts, filled with sickness, so no fun. But thank you all for your well wishes!

So... I've been toying with the idea of doing a little Q&A thing on this here blog, and I finally decided to just do it. Who cares if I only get one question, or no questions, or questions like, "Why is the sky blue?" I'll answer every question that I get, no matter how offensive, stupid, ridiculous, whatever. Here's how it'll work. You have a question, just leave it in the comments, or email it to me. Hopefully it'll be a way to share more of myself with you guys.

Anyway.

It's finally Friday. Thank the good Lord in Heaven above. Anyway, as per usual... it's time for my favorite things!

1. Learning new stuff from Mike. This dude has taught me a lot about HTML and Javascript (even though I can't for the life of me tell you which is which). I think he sometimes gets frustrated and just wants to take over the code stuff for me, but he's patient and helps me learn. Gosh, I love that guy.
2. Avon's Solutions Plus+ Total Radiance Thermal Cleanser. This stuff is freakin' amazeballs. Seriously. Actually the whole line of Avon Solutions is amazing, and they're all super affordable - this one is only $8.00! Yes, please. So amazing for super sensitive skin, too. And yes, I still use honey on my face.

3. Numbers. Have you seen that show? Husband and I love it. It's got the nerdy guy from my FAVORITE movie, 10 Things I Hate About You.
4. Pillows. How awful would sleeping be if we didn't have pillows? Let me tell you - really freakin' awful. It's the little things, people!
5. Cute animals. Dudes (slash sophisticated ladies). Hurry your little tooshies over to this site. You will be met with puppy dog eyes, baby seals, and cuddly kittens. If you have baby fever, this site will somehow manage to increase it exponentially while simultaneously making you want to run to the humane society and adopt every little critter in sight (except for lizards, because they're slimy).

Happy Friday, and don't forget to send in your questions!

Dear Husband...

Yo. Howdy. Hello. Hi there. Bonjour. Hola. Hallo.

I realized today that I don't talk about husband a lot. I tend to think that this okay, because my blog isn't a "newlywed" blog, and I don't feel the need to constantly tell the entire world how much I love him, or how perfect marriage is, or any of that stuff. The only problem I have with this is that I think that someday [either when I'm 103 or 28 and I wake up from a car crash and forget that I'm married to Channing Tatum Husband] I'd like to have it written down somewhere who this giant dude that I'm married to is.

Don't worry, it's not all mushy gushy. I tend to keep that stuff just between us. :)

Dear Husband,

I think you're pretty great. When I met you, I thought you were a young'un because you had such a baby face. I was convinced that by dancing with you, I was breaking some sort of law. I mean, really. You did not look 21 at all. Once I found out you were, though, I was a little more okay with asking for your phone number [I got the moves like Jagger...] and consequently having a text-ersation for a few hours after we met.

Haha, yeah... I married that!!

After that night... we never really looked back, did we? Five and a half months later I said "I do" and we were officially stuck together for eternity. I don't mind, though. I've learned a lot about you in these past [almost] two years of knowing you. For example:

- Your favorite place in the world is Scotland

- You still speak British English and say silly things like "flat" and "trousers," and misspell words like "color" and "favorite."

- You have an amazing voice. [don't believe me? Go click his little button on my left sidebar.]

- You think it's hilarious to come fart in my face and then run away (don't kill me for writing that). You also take ridiculous pictures like this:

- You have very strong ears and can handle a ton of loud noises and yelling, because I have yet to figure out what an "inside voice" is.

- You really like babies and are going to be a totally awesome dad.

- [Insert inappropriate comment about making babies here]

- It is very difficult for you to take a photo without a cheesy smile.

- Feeding you is more expensive than feeding 2 midgets (I've never fed two midgets, but I assume this is a true fact).

- You almost always put the toilet seat down [number one husband trait right there, buddy]. Except last night when I almost fell in. You forgot last night. But... every other time, you remember.

- You have a cute butt (please don't kill me for that, either).

- You let me be a bed hog in bed and a water hog in the shower (don't get your disgusted face on, I know I am not the only person who showers with their husband)

- You like how "little" I am compared to you. I think it makes you feel strong.

- You are huge, and with another face would probably be terrifying, but you are really just a big teddy bear who wouldn't hurt a fly (if a big crazy stalker is reading this... he wouldn't hurt a fly unless a fly tried to hurt me. If that happened.... he would murder the fly like the cold-blooded fly killer that he is).

- Lots of other crap, but this is getting long. Ask me later, and I'll list off some more stuff.

Moral of the story is... you're a pretty cool dude, and I'm happy you asked me to dance that one time, because life with you just keeps gettin' better. I like our impromptu singing and ridiculous dancing, I like our stupid and silly conversations (half of which are inappropriate so never end up here). I like it all!
