How do YOU do it?!

Hello hello!

It's Thursday. Duh, you know this. Or maybe you didn't, in which case - you're welcome. The first thought that comes to my mind is, thank goodness tomorrow is Friday and this week will be over.

I've been kind of (okay, REALLY) bad at blogging this week, mostly because I have so many ideas, so many things I want to talk about, but I just haven't had the desire. I have had the desire instead to lay in bed and never leave. I'm not depressed, no - I'm stressed.
Stressed to the flipping max. There's a lot going on, most of which I feel would be inappropriate to mention in a public forum such as this blog, but let's just say that life has been chasing me for a while, this week I finally got exhausted, and let it catch up to me, where it proceeded to attempt to swallow me whole (which - RUDE, life! What are you, some sort of crazy man-eating python?). In light of recent events, my diet has been less-than-stellar (I forget to eat one day, then overcompensate the next), my sleep has been poor, and my back is so knotty it probably resembles a 500-year-old tree.

I deal with low levels of stress or anger through exercise. However, when things get this stressful, it is difficult for me to not just shut down completely and wallow in a state of constant worry. So... my question to you is this:

HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF STRESS?! Seriously. Any and all advice is appreciated.

Also... thank you thank you for all of your support of Elsie and I! Elsie didn't win, but I did, so that's awesome! Maybe I can convince them that Elsie's cute enough to be a brand rep regardless of the fact that she didn't get the popular vote? We'll see.

I never feel un-stressed until I start doing. I pick the least offensive thing/easiest thing on my list, and I do it. Then the next one. I just keep doing the next thing.

Well I know you don't drink soooo wine's out!

But running, also, watching sitcoms, I have been bingewatching Parks and Rec and even though I'm so oberwhelmed with school (can't imagine you though, school, teaching, baby, husband!) that I watch whenever I take a break to eat or something.

Also, Alyx, you HAVE to get a foam roller!! It is "self-massage" (as creepy as that sounds) it has changed my life. OK, it KILLS my upper legs when I do it (but also feels good) but it feels so good when you do it on your back! Felipe used it just to roll out his back and he really loved it too. I think you can get them anywhere from $30-$200 on amazon! I started with just a recycled piece of foam from my friend and now i upgraded to the "trigger point roller" which has little grooves in it.

congrats on winning!! just sneak elsie into the pic with you :)

I'm so glad you won! That's so exciting! Destressing for me is hot showers and naps and a good book, but it depends on the situation. Destressing for me is a lazy afternoon, but if I'm stressed cuz I have to do I just have to suck it up and finish it before I feel any better.

Exercise (always), writing, and good friends. Someone who you can talk their ear off and help you verbalize all the things you're stressing and worrying about. That being said, let me know if you want to talk

Totally kidding. A hangover is NOT what you need right now. I'm terrible at handling stress, so you don't want advice from me. I do hope it gets better, though.

So Elsie is already getting one-upped by her mom. I have that song from way back running through my head right now... 'Stacy can't you see, you're just not the girl for me. I know it might be wrong, but I'm in love with Stacey's mom.' :o)

That's the exact same situation I'm in. Hope everything is ok.

And I'm going back for everyone else's comments because I need advice on this too.

Just know I'm here for you. <3

I yell, "Uncle!" and avoid anything that is not absolutely necessary for a full day. Then the next day I almost always kick it into high gear and am a ton more productive/calm than I would have been had I just tried to muddle through. Hang in there, girl!!!!

Oh good heavens, that is NO good! Have you ever tried yoga? My stress has been keeping me up till all hours of the night because I can't sleep lately...but I remember when I did yoga regularly I was able to fall asleep so quickly! I'm thinking I might try it again.

I have the same problem with stress! I need ideas on how to deal too!

PS... Congrats on winning!

Stress is the worst. Sometimes I feel that it's going to be too hard to crawl out of my stress hole. The best thing for me is to write everything down that is stressing me out. It helps to visualize it all. Then I make due dates on solutions or schedule out a day that Elsie will have a sitter and you can spend all day tackling that list. Plus it helps to reward yourself, go get a nice manicure or something to help make you want to tackle the list. ALSO if you ever need someone to vent to you can always count on us, your fellow readers. Hope you can de-stress soon, I've been there and it is just not fun.

Honestly, when I get that stressed out, I am a hide under the covers and just let my brain go kind of person.

Well, I'm not the best advocate since I get stressed out easily, but I did try lots of different stuff.
I used to think that I could accomplish everything stress-free if I could just figure out the right productivity system. But we're (especially women, even more mothers) trying to do too much, to please too many people. Rethink your commitments and to-do list. Ditch what isn't important enough. Put yourself first - I know this is hard when you're a parent, but you daily need some time that is only for you and you do something totally "lame" to unplug.
I'm speaking in general because I don't know your case, but I think that when we're stressed out, we should dig into psychological reasons behind the stress. I often try to tackle more things than I can handle because I compare myself with workaholics and think that significant others will be disappointed in me if I'm not doing it all. Also, ask for help and don't worry alone.

I find something totally non stressful that makes me super happy and do that. Either shopping or taking time to read, going out for coffee with a friend... something like that to take my mind of things and remember that life can be fun too.

Stress is really hard because a lot of times, there is just nothing that can alleviate the stress but time and actually doing the stuff. Depending on what is actually stressing you out at the moment, I think what works for me is looking at my life and my priorities at the moment and saying what can I actually shift or what are something i do currently that maybe my husband could help out with until this goes away. Like maybe cleaning the house is a priority that just doesn't make it right now and instead of "clean and spotless" it's just "not going to kill my child"...does that even make sense?

Also, try taking deep breaths (through your nose!) into your stomach and breathing in for the count of 3 or 4 and breathing out (through the nose) for the count of 6 or 8, respectively).

This is the question I ask myself whenever I get overwhelmed with anxiety or stress: "Am I going to die?" Surprisingly, this works really well. I don't know. I'm morbid.

I tend to get really sick when I'm super stressed. It's awful. I hope things gt better soon, you can always call/text/gchat for some venting!

I wish I had some advice but I too fall victim to being swallowed by the stress python from time to time. However I do try to compartmentalize what's happening and if I'm stressing about something that is out of my control, I do my best to let it go. If I can't fix it, I can't fix it. I'm actually getting better about that one and it's made a huge difference to stress and anxiety levels.
I hope whatever has been going on has chilled out for you some xo
