It's Enough.

Happy Tuesday!

I have to admit - part of the reason I was out of the blogging world for so long was because I didn't feel like my life was enough. I didn't have enough exciting things to write about, I didn't have enough money to go out and buy trendy clothes (for myself or Elsie), I didn't have enough time to make myself look presentable enough to appear in photos on the blog.

We live in a small, simple house in a less-than-stellar neighborhood. Our house is full of hand-me-down and garage sale furniture. My wardrobe is made up entirely of clothing found on clearance racks. We have one car and I ride the bus most days. My life isn't exciting - I go to school, work, then come home and take care of Elsie. I work out and I do my photography. Somehow, even though I'm satisfied with where I am in life, it just didn't seem like enough to blog about.

I know how blessed I am. I know that I am incredibly lucky to have a home, clothing, food, and a family that loves me. I think sometimes I just get a little overwhelmed by Blogworld's emphasis on things. Possessions. Money. What the latest and greatest trends and products are. What sorts of happiness your money can buy.

What we need to remember is that, even if we don't have much money, even if we can't afford to splurge on things like makeup, clothing, or nail polish, our lives are enough. We are enough.

So... I won't have any exciting trips, cute new clothes, fabulous new jewelry, or awesome new gadgets to blog about any time soon. What I will have, though, is moments with my daughter and husband, little everyday occurrences, and an overload of cute baby pictures (didn't think you'd get out of that one, did you?!).

Thanks for following my journey over the past couple of years. Thanks for helping me remember that I am enough.

I know exactly what you are saying. It's pretty hard to find something worth writing about when you feel like your life is at a stand still or going nowhere. but I love your posts and you inspire me to write more even if it's about not having anything to write about. Just keep it up. I look forward to your stories.

I really like this. Honestly, I am totally over blogs and blogging in general. I keep updating mine because I keep thinking of things that I want to write about and I use it as a public, mildly censored form of journaling. I look at fashion and beauty blogs and the excess of THINGS overwhelms me and grosses me out. And all of the group giveaways and sponsored posts, I am just so over. I really only read a handful of blogs now, mostly they are written by people I consider friends. But your perspective is so refreshing. I love reading what you have to say!

I love this. And I love that you said this. It can be so hard to feel fun and worth it and interesting without a ton of money and all the cool new things it's like then what am I?

Hi Alyx
I totally understand sometimes it hard being a blogger :/ my GFC widget stopped working recently so I was devistated because I felt like I lost all my followers and potential followers :/ so I'm hoping it gets easier :) but I love reading your blog no matter what it's about :) we should all be blog supporters :)

I can totally relate Alyx. I definitely don't have a house worthy of being in Homes and Gardens or clothes worthy of a supermodel. I love my life but I often think its too boring for the blog world. Its hard to get past that. But thats part of why i started a new blog - to get away from some of that superficial stuff. I always love reading what you have to say!!

I believe most bloggers struggle with this issue, the idea of being enough for their readers. Standards are so high in our community! Perfect hair, makeup, outfits, DIYs, houses, etc. Basically, the perfect life. What we don't see is anything we have to offer is enough! It doesn't have to be perfect, it is enough just as it is!
I've been feeling much of the same lately. I just don't have enough to talk about in my life, ya know? What I will tell you is I LOVE seeing pictures of your adorable baby and hearing about her and her adventures. And someday when little Elsie grows up, she will be able to read these posts and see what her mama was up to when she was just a little thing. How precious is that?!
Life in general, in all its simplicity and seemingly mundaneness, is always enough.

I'm with you 100% and can relate to this post so much. Cody is in school, I'm not working, we live in a townhome. I still haven't figured out how to use my camera so I can't share amazing photos of my amazing anything lol. But whatever :D My readers are pretty much only going to read about Elliott because that's what's going on in my life lol

You definitely are enough! That is one of the reasons I follow you. I sometimes feel as if I am not enough. Colon and I are on a budget and shopping every day (or even every other week) cannot happen. We have other priorities and I cannot be flashing my blog with my new this and my cool new that.

Thank you for being you and I hope you know how awesome you are!

this post reminded me to think positive and be proud of who I am!

I hear you on this, Alyx. I know I've been struggling a lot with blogging recently because everything I can think to write about of falls into two categories.... Too boring or too personal.

Too personal, I sorta get... My life's going through some massive upheaval right now and I don't really want to say anything about much of it because I'd really rather let the dust settle and keep my thoughts on things private until I have a little more perspective.

But the stuff that I come with that I deem "too boring" often times is just a cop out. As it turns out, a lot of the things that I deem too ordinary to write about or worry might be too boring tend to be the things that other people are the most interested in. I had a friend tell me the other day that she always can tell when my posts were going to be really interesting because I've prefaced the post about how boring it probably is going to be to everybody!

I know what you mean. I hardly leave the house and maybe wear something other than sweats and PJs once a month. Other than my baby, I have little to blog about- and then I feel like I don't dress him cute enough. so lame. He's cute enough, I don't need cute clothes taking away from him. Anyway, I always love your posts, so keep blogging :)

Clearly I am following a whole different set of blogs than you are - I never see any emphasis on things or money on people's blogs. Granted, I don't read fashion and beauty blogs, so that's probably where this post is coming from. Am I right?

I think it's time you revamped your blog following list! I like to follow funny blogs {like yours!}, photography blogs, travel blogs, and blogs by women with kids Lexie's age. I find support on blogs like that - not criticism that I'm not good enough.

Alyx, I've always always loved reading your blog, because it's real! I agree, the blog world makes me go crazy sometimes, like we need more more more, when in reality life isn't about things at all.

Hope you're having a great day friend!

See, I don't read blogs because the writer goes on awesome vacations or has some fabulous life. I read because the writer is REAL, good or bad. Just keep doing what you're doing Alyx, I'll stick around!

Alyx, you are more than enough. Trust me. We love you because you are fantastic. Period.

Although I love reading those blogs with all the awesome travel recaps. I will always go for blogs like yours. Written by girls like me who live simply, and love deeply. All of my clothes are hand-me-downs and I think it's awesome you are a one-car family! I think to say that "you are enough" is really cutting yourself short. You are awesome! You're a great wife, a great Mama and a photography/fitness warrior! You have much that is blog-worthy ;)

For real, I'd rather read about someone's normal, average life than all about how fancy and cool they are and all their new stuff.

It's much more enjoyable to read blogs like yours, someone who is passionate about what she does, has special moments with family and is genuine. Life isn't about flashy possessions and many blogs who flaunt themselves just seem vacuous. Keep doing what you're doing, keep enjoying life and sharing cute pictures and we'll all be more than happy to follow along :)

I think it's really easy to feel this way in blog land. Even when I do something fun and "blog worthy" usually at the time I don't realize it, so then there is no proof which is also a no-no in blog land. I love writing and expressing myself, but I need to remember that I'm enough as well! Thanks for this post!

This is so true! It’s hard not to compare yourself to all the other bloggers out there. I posted something similar a while back. Great minds think alike:) http://www.thistooisfoundhere.blogspot.com/2013/06/a-little-reminder.html

Blogworld's emphasis on things? Never noticed that! Probably because there's much more exciting and inspirational to read than blogs. Have you, for instance, read "Little Prince" with your Elsie? I would love to hear what she thinks! Happy Wednesday, dear Alyx!

rooth said...

Yep yep, it is, you are, enough. Or maybe even more than enough, if we were to count our blessings. And everything else is just a bonus. It's a great attitude to remind ourselves of and not to get too caught up in the whirlwind that is "stuff"

Yep, I hear ya, sister! I basically stopped blogging when I was pregnant (too exhausted) and am just now sticking my toe back into the blogging pool. But besides tons of baby pics, I don't have a lot to talk about for the time being. I go to work, come home, hang with the baby (and the man) and go to bed at 9pm. Not very thrilling! But I'm trying, because it's not just for followers, it's for me, and my son, so I can look back in 15 years and show him what life was like before he started having his own memories. :)
