Sunday Confessions Link-Up

What's that?!?!? An actual blog post?

Pick your jaws up off the floor, grab a button, write up some juicy confessions, and link up.

1. I'm absolutely sick of all the negativity surrounding labor. It has been thrown at me from every direction, and I've had it. Guess what, guys?! I'm not an idiot, I know that a human coming out of my hoo-ha is not going to be the most comfortable feeling in the world. You know what, though? It is natural. It is beautiful. It is what God intended women to do, and I'm pretty sure that, since He wants us to "multiply and replenish the earth," He did not think to Himself, "I'm going to make this as painful and horrible as possible!"

So do me a favor, people with whom I come into contact on a daily basis - do NOT tell me that I can't handle it. Do not tell me that labor is "sooo hard" and "sooo painful" and if I don't get an epidural I will kick and scream and want to die. Okay? Because, NEWS FLASH: women have been giving birth since the dawn of time, and epidurals have only been around for a little while. Am I saying I don't want drugs if I have to have a C-section? Heck, no. I'm not letting someone slice me open without being knocked out first.

What I am saying is this: It is my birth and my choice. Keep your opinions and your negativity to yourself, please and thank you.
2. I've been a bit of a grumpy-pants lately. I don't know if it's because I'm toting around an extra 34 pounds and have to rotate through 5 outfits or because I'm always hungry/tired, but things that normally would have just been mildly annoying make me want to punch babies (not mine, of course).

3. My baby is going to have friggin' Rapunzel hair. Or at least she will if that old wive's tale is true (you know, the one that tells you that a momma with heartburn = a baby with hair), because let me tell ya something - I take 2 Zantac 150s each day and STILL wake up 3-4 times a night in order to pop some TUMS. I've also taken to eating ice cream and milkshakes every night (it helps, seriously) a couple of hours before bed.
4. I'm selfish. Seriously. Soooo selfish. I am so excited for this little girl to make her appearance (mostly because I'll have a few broken ribs if she doesn't get her butt outta my belly pretty soon), but holy balls. I am just not ready to give my life to someone else. I never thought I was that selfish, but now I find myself a little sad when I can't buy something just because I want to, or when I realize that Mike and I can't go on a "babymoon" because, well... we're having a frickin' baby and she's costing us thousands and thousands of dollars. I get a little sad when I realize that, as soon as she's born, it's not all about just Mike and I anymore. Our whole world is about to be flipped upside-down, and I'm just not sure I'm ready for that.

5. I have written enough. No number five because I've already written a novel.

What do you have to get off your chest today?

You know why I think you're going to be an awesome Mama? Because you say holy balls. That's why!!!!!! And you're honest. And authentic. And freakin' hilarious. Miss Repunzel is so lucky to have you as her Mom. Seriously.

Blessings + Hugs,
Nicole

Re: #1

THANK YOU!

I am also so tired of "labour is SOOOOO bad!" To echo? Yeah, it's not going to tickle. But...women have been doing it since there have been women to birth small people. The vast majority of them made it through unscathed (or only a little bit scathed). I expect it to hurt, probably a lot, but it is what it is and it doesn't last forever.

I know you only from this blog, but from what I know, you're amazing. You'll handle labour and delivery the way you handle pregnancy, touring about the world, your professional life, your relationships and everything else in your life: with grace and humour. You're going to rock labour and you're going to be a phenomenal mother (and I can't wait to read stories about your beautiful little girl)! :)

Labor was the most amazing thing I've ever done in my life. I hated all the negativity and the questions of "WHY?!" when I told people I was going to have a natural childbirth. Why? Because I thought it was best for us. And I was right. You can do it! :)

AMEN to #1, Alyx. And DON'T listen to it! I even got it from my health care providers because I'm so old (including midwives, unfortunately). The reality for me was that I had a seven hour labor that was painful but not the end of the world!

If you can, just start telling the people from #1 off. If you still want to have a relationship with them later, tell them it was pregnancy hormones and you can't be held responsible.
As for the acid reflux, not true. Quinn was bald and I had to do the same thing you're doing. Sorry to disappoint.

I confess that I'm happy you blogged, woohoo! :)

And I'm glad you're not letting the haters get to you. Everybody is different, and yes, labor is hard, but it's also the most rewarding thing I've ever experienced. I totally agree with Breenah - have a total hormonal rage the next time somebody says something and they'll be cured from bitch-itis for sure! ;)

Happy Sunday!

I did a happy dance when I saw you pop up in my blog feed. I miss you! I need to text you more.

I couldn't agree more about the negativity surrounding childbirth. And yours will be fine and beautiful, because you aren't going into it with a bad attitude. I believe in you, you can do his exactly as you want to! And little Elsie is going to be magnificent.

That really surprises me about the labor thing bc I feel like a lot more ppl are doing natural childbirth! And hey, may e it'll be a quick delivery! I was just talking to Felipe's mom about when he was born, her water broke and he just slipped right out I asked her if it hurt she said no it just was uncomfortable. Lol! I pray that's me one day! My mom also gave birth without epidural a bc her doctor didn't believe in them and she popped all the blood vessels in her eyes and went blind for a few days!! And I'm not saying that to be annoying but then my mom had me and she still didn't have one so obviously even with a pretty bad experience it's not the end of the world

I am surprised and sorry to hear about the labor thing! I hope people will stop, that is just annoying!
I am pretty grumpy lately too and I am not pregnant so I don't have an excuse. :)
Have a great Sunday!

I admire you so much for a number of reasons. One, most women don't question the "traditional" birth situation. They plan to go to the hospital, get an epidural and have a baby. You on the other hand really thought it out and made the best plan for YOUR family. That takes guts to go against the norm and I think that shows the type of mama you're gonna be; one that doesn't take crap from other people and does what's best for her family and her's alone.

I HATE when people feel the need to constantly give their opinion to you, even when you never asked for it in the first place. So obnoxious!

You must be getting close! My co-blogger Cindy just shared with the world that she is 5 months pregnant, and she is so excited. I'm glad I get to go through it with her before it is my turn so I have a bit of an idea what to expect! ~Stephanie

WHY do people feel like its okay to share their opinions and negativity with you?

you will be an amazing mama, and i think it is totally normal to have anxieties about giving up "you" and "you and mike" time before you have a baby. it's hard. but i think after she gets here, you guys will lean on each other and become closer than ever before... it will just be a little different is all.

This is what I don't understand. It seems like the second a woman gets pregnant and has kids the "polite filter" turns off an every has a very strong opinion about how said woman should give birth, raise kids, etc etc.

No one is like "HEY, you're going to suck in that career you should choose someone else" --- It just seems weird to me.

I've never even been pregnant and it drives me crazy.

ah, labor... I can't believe I've done it twice. Wow, it sucked. HAHAHA

To be honest (which I know you can take), I'm still a little bummed about it not being me & the hubs anymore. Its different. WAAAY so. I miss it being him & I. not enough to trade, obviously, as (1) that's the obligatory mom thing to say and (2) it's totally true. But still. Also, you look great in your pictures! Love the hair!

I am all about the epidural, but I 100% think everyone should be allowed to make whatever decision they want! I don't know why everyone thinks they need to chime in on EVERYTHING as soon as you get pregnant. Weird....
I'm feeling pretty selfish about the whole thing, too. I know our little guy is going to be awesome, but it will be such a completely different life from the one we have been living together for the last 15+ years. It's mind blowing to even try to imagine. But, it's the next step and we are just going to go with the flow! Not much else we can do, in any case. :P

I don't know how you've managed to keep your cool when people tell you all of that negative stuff, I'm pretty sure I would Hulk out on them and then blame the hormones.

Kassi said...

Dude, I hate that negativity. I have a couple of friends that have been like, how's the heartburn? Have you been getting annoyed east? Etc? Etc? No matter what I say they're answer is always, 'Oh, just wait, it gets worse!!!' I for reals don't need to be told that for my sanity #1 and I'm not you, so it might not get worse for me. Thanks. ugh.
